Cannon seems to be doing all it can to recapture some of its past glory with the PowerShot G11. Being the first G-series model with some major changes in some five years, this new model looks and feels like the last G-series model the G10. The old design is kept and so is the sturdiness of its construction, or at least thats how it feels. Among the changes you will find is the inclusion of an articulated LCD. There is a decrease in the resolution from 14.7 to 10 megapixels.
The body of the G11 is just about the same with the sensor and the lens being about the same size. It grip is however not what I would like and it could be a bit bigger. Also your thumb may slip off the thumb rest so shooting with only one hand may not be secure. Its lager size allows it to fit in its optical view finder along with its bigger dials that can be turned easily. It is quick when shooting pictures and does so in a fluid way. There is a similar four way switch to control things like focus, the flash, and macro, to what is found on the G10. The scroll wheel which surrounds the switch is really nice and easy to use with no hitches.
The G11 also has a Quick Shot mode providing a more interactive interface for the control panel. The problem with this is that you will not be able to access the panel when you are shooting in shutter mode. The image quality is fairly good and you will get clean photos up to ISO 100 and once you go to ISO 400 and above the quality begin to fade.
So even though there are a few things about the PowerShot G11it will still make a good buy. One last thing, I have just looked at the web design for this hr software website and I must admit in my web designer opinion it is definitely attractive.
